About the artists

Victoria Carr’s self-titled debut EP marks the arrival of an artist who has taken a decade of introspection and turned it into a new beginning, blending acoustic genres to draw the listener into a carefully observed world of wistful longing. Most of the songs were written while she was sidelined by an autoimmune disease. Immobility turned Victoria into an observer and a philosopher. There was no roadmap during this time and the EP stems from a place of gradual acceptance in finding a way back to enjoying life. The Toronto-based singer songwriter recorded her solo EP at Revolution Recording (The Sadies/Great Lake Swimmers) with members of The Wilderness of Manitoba, drummer Adam Bowman (Elise LeGrow/Ember Swift), violist Rachael Cardiello and cellist Michelle Kobakov. This curation of well-travelled stories was produced by Graham Stairs (The Wilderness of Manitoba/Barenaked Ladies).

Victoria’s music ranges from compositions for Dora award-winning plays to commissions for art installations and audiobook pieces to commercials. As a member of the JUNO nominated band The Wilderness of Manitoba, she sang and played acoustic guitar on their most recent album, Farewell To Cathedral. Spill Magazine wrote that Victoria added “a sublime folk charm to each song she appears on”. The Roots Music Report stated that the album “generates warm-hearted, folk-flavored incandescence throughout a set of lyrically potent originals”. American public radio host George Graham said that Farewell To Cathedral “creates a melodic blend with often intriguing lyrics, airy vocals and mellow instrumentation combining the folk music of the past with more contemporary alternative influences”. Building on her experience with The Wilderness of Manitoba, Victoria releases her debut solo EP on November 29, 2024.

“Victoria’s EP is so good. I was transported when working on it. She’s bringing back a pretty cool form of music. Stylistic storytelling and old school sonics that, no matter what, just sound more engaging and musical. I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed working on it.” Joao Carvalho, Joao Carvalho Mastering.
